Police swoop on quiet Burnham-On-Sea back street

Police sealed off a quiet Burnham-On-Sea back street on Saturday morning, February 25th.

Tape marked 'Crime Scene, Do Not Enter' was put around a green waste container at the back of GW Hurleys in an area not far from Phoenix Toe, off Technical Street.

Residents told Burnham-On-Sea.com that several police vehicles had rushed to the scene at around 9am.

Officers spoke to people living in the area, but nothing appeared to have been found, said eyewitnesses.

The area around a Severnside waste container was cordoned off for around an hour while investigations were carried out.

A police spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the incident had turned out to be a "false alarm" and that the matter was now closed. He declined to comment on what had triggered the alarm or give further details.

A spokesman for GW Hurleys also said he did not know why the incident had occurred.
