Vintage vehicles set to converge on Burnham-On-Sea seafront

-

More than 200 vintage vehicles are set to converge on Burnham’s seafront on Saturday evening (June 3rd) for the 13th annual Vale of Avalon Vintage Vehicle Road Run.

The South Esplanade will be closed to traffic for four hours to allow the crowds to wander around the cars, motorbikes, vans and lorries which date back more than 20 years.

Among the vehicles on display will be vintage ice cream vans, police cars and fire engines alongside valuable old cars and motorbikes.

The 43-mile Road Run attracts large crowds of spectators to the town’s seafront, and with good weather forecast this weekend the scenes of large crowds at last year’s event are likely to be repeated again.

Organiser Daphne Stone told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re hoping for another great evening. The vehicles will start arriving on Burnham seafront from 5.45pm and they will be there for two hours until 7.45pm, when they’ll make their way back to Glastonbury.”

She added that 190 vehicles had so far entered the event, but added: “Entries are still pouring in, so there should be plenty of vehicles for everyone to see.”

Last year, the event raised £4,000 for Children’s Hospice South West. It is hoped that a similar amount will be raised for the group this time.
