-

Sea water quality at Burnham-On-Sea, Brean and Berrow has this week been praised in a new EU report.

Key to map aboveThe area’s bathing water quality is excellent, according to the European Commission study.

As shown on the map above, all three beaches in our area passed the tests.

Beach 191 at Berrow, north of Unity Farm, was judged to have complied with a sea water quality check, as did Beach 192 at Brean.

And Beach 193 at Burnham-On-Sea Jetty (pictured below) was praised as complying with mandatory values. The quality of water at all three bathing areas did not change over the course of the year.

Water quality in Burnham meets mandatory values according to the reportIn the South West as a whole, there are no areas where bathing is banned because of pollution and only one beach – Instow in North Devon – did not quite make the grade.

The results show the West Country’s beaches stand up excellently against the rest of the EU, where only 96 percent of sites met the mandatory standards.
