Burnham-On-Sea seafront death no longer being treated as suspicious

-

Burnham-On-Sea Police said on Thursday afternoon (December 7th) that they are no longer treating the death of a 59-year-old woman on the town’s seafront as suspicious.

It follows a second post mortem by a Home Office Pathologist earlier in the day.

A police spokesman said the case would now be passed to the North Somerset Coroner for an inquest to take place in due course.

The news came after the bandstand at the top of Sea View Road was sealed off on Wednesday night and much of Thursday as police investigated the incident – as we reported yesterday.

Police spokesman Dan Mountain told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Officers were called by ambulance teams to a bandstand on the seafront at 7.45pm on Tuesday (December 5th) after reports of a woman being found. She was taken to Weston General Hospital and died a short time afterwards.”

“The initial post mortem on the 59-year-old led police to treat the death as suspicious.”

Police carried out door-to-door enquiries in the area on Wednesday as they gathered information on what may have happened.
