Highbridge sewage treatment plant ‘not to blame’ for unpleasant smells

-

A sewage treatment plant is not to blame for the unpleasant smells that have been plaguing parts of Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge in recent days.

Wessex Water confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com this week that it had received several complaints regarding the smells, but it denied there are problems at its sewage treatment centre at Apex Leisure Park.

“The matter has been brought to our attention by several customers. One of our staff visited the Highbridge treatment centre to investigate, but found no problems,” said spokesman Hywell Lloyd.

“The storm tanks are full after the recent bad weather, but we found no evidence of any unusual problems. We don’t think the odour has anything to do with the Highbridge treatment centre.”

He added: “We would ask people to contact us with the time, location and a description of the smell.”

Wessex Water can be contacted on 0845 600 4600. There is also a thread on this issue in Burnham-On-Sea.com’s discussion forum.
