80mph winds cause expensive damage in Burnham-On-Sea

-

This was the scene in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea on Sunday morning (December 3rd) after powerful 80mph winds had swept through the town overnight.

Sentiments, a greetings card shop, in the High Street was starting a major clean-up after the signage on the front of its shop came crashing down, leaving the council to cordon off the area for safety.

It was just one of several incidents in and around Burnham following a night of strong gales, which had struck particularly hard at around 4am, as predicted by forecasters at the Met Office.

Several trees were blown down across the area, partially blocking several roads. These included Love Lane (pictured above), Stoddens Lane and Berrow Road.

In Highbridge, a large sign at the entrance to Morland Industrial Park, pictured, was blown over – leaving it in a precarious position over the path.
