Parish
councillors living next to a proposed wind farm on the outskirts
of Burnham-On-Sea
this week gave their verdict on the scheme.
At
a meeting of Burnham Without Parish Council on Thursday evening
(June 1st), members narrowly voted to reject the application to
build five turbines on land at Edithmead (pictured).
Rosemary
Hawkins, of Burnham Without Parish Council, told Burnham-On-Sea.com:
"It was a close run thing. Our council voted by just 4 to
3 to turn it down."
"There
were an enormous number of people at the meeting, many of whom
were from Brent Knoll."
"Six
were invited to speak, and two were in favour and the remainder
against. We also invited Ecotricity along, but they didn't attend."
"There
was quite a lively discussion and the opinions of both sides of
the debate spoke clearly about the matter."
The
council's decision to turn down the scheme follows similar
decisions by Burnham and Highbridge town councillors and Brent
Knoll parish councillors in May.
Ecotricity's
planning application is currently with Sedgemoor District Council
and is scheduled to be decided by its Development Control Committee
on August 8th.
