Countdown
to a decision on Burnham-On-Sea wind farm

A
final decision is expected to be made on Tuesday (August 8th)
as to whether a controversial wind farm planned for land on the
outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea should get the go-ahead.
Sedgemoor
planners will meet at 10am to decide whether Ecotricity's proposed
five wind turbines (pictured) should be given a green or red light.
Members
of FORCE (Families
for Clean Energy) will speak in favour of the development,
while opposing action group KNOll to Wind Farm will outline why
it believes the scheme would not be in the best interests of the
area.
Planners
are recommending that the scheme turned down, as we revealed
last week.
In
a document, planners state: "Brent Knoll is an isolated hill
formation rising from the low-lying Levels. To site five wind
turbines in the foreground of this topological feature when viewed
from publicly accessible viewpoints would destroy the character
of the special landscape feature and the setting of the rural
village of Brent Knoll, and its Listed Buildings on its lower
slopes."
Ecotricity
said the company would appeal to the Secretary of State if the
scheme is turned down. "There's
no question," said Dale Vince. "We know it's the right
place. It's the council's responsibility to make a decision, but
we can always get a second opinion."
Burnham-On-Sea.com
will have full coverage on the decision later today.
