Burnham
wind farm protestors challenge Ecotricity boss to meet them

The group of protestors fighting plans to build a wind farm between
Burnham-On-Sea and Brent Knoll have issued a challenge to the
boss of Ecotricity to come and meet them to discuss the proposal.
The
KNOll to Wind Farm Action Group recently publicly questioned claims
by Ecotricity, the prospective developer of the scheme, that the
five turbines would generate enough electricity to meet the needs
of 8,000 plus local houses.
But
Dale Vince, Managing Director of Ecotricity, (pictured) stood
by the figures in an interview with Burnham-On-Sea.com and local
newspapers.
On
Monday (April 24th), Andrew Manning, spokesman for the action
group, hit back, saying: "We note that Mr Vince is standing
by his company's claims, and indeed has increased the figures
to 10,000 houses on the Ecotricity Web site."
"Mr
Vince has rubbished our claims and wants to meet with us. We
would be delighted for our technical gurus to meet with Mr Vince,
once Ecotricity has published the basis for its calculations."
"We
have had no issue with publishing our calculations so can't see
why Ecotricity should not do the same."
KNOll
to Wind Farm says its calculations have been produced by a "highly
experienced electrical consultant" and indicate that a figure
of around 25 per cent of the 8,000 homes appears a "more
realistic" power output.
Mr Manning also said KNOll to Wind Farm had been contacted by
a group in North America in the past week with some interesting
information.
"They
claim their research suggests that very large wind turbines, such
as those proposed here for Burnham, are even less efficient than
the more common types on which most efficiency claims are based."
Ecotricity
was not available for an immediate response at publication time
on Monday.
