More than 20 yachts and fishing boats were winched into the sky above the River Brue in Burnham-On-Sea on Wednesday morning (October 11th) as the annual winter ‘crane-out’ got underway.

The delicate operation to move 21 vessels began at 6.30am and took around six hours to complete.

The process happens each year at this time and marks the end of the summer sailing season.

The boats are moved into safe storage in the Sailing Club’s boat yard during the winter months and then craned-in during April at the start of the summer season.

The two 50-metre high cranes towered over the Burnham skyline on Wednesday.
