Closure order placed on Burnham-On-Sea property by police

-

A closure order has been served on a property in Burnham-On-Sea to stamp out anti-social behaviour.

It is the first time that a closure notice has been granted on a property in the town.

The notice was granted at Taunton Deane Magistrates Court on Wednesday (March 21st) and will be effective for the next three months.

The order was made under the Anti-social Behaviour act 2003 and prohibits anyone entering three flats – Flats 1, 1a, and 2 at 40-42 Abingdon Street – without the authority of the police.

Abingdon Street [Google Maps]Neighbourhood Sergeant Ian Kennett has worked with Sedgemoor District Council, local residents, partner agencies and the owner of the property to tackle the issue of drug dealing and anti-social behaviour in Abingdon Street.

He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We have taken this action to make the neighbourhood a safer place. I want to send a strong message to any drug dealers that they will not be tolerated in Burnham-On Sea or Highbridge.”

“Local residents should not be put in fear for the safety of their families. This is the first time that this type of action has been taken in Burnham-On-Sea and I hope it will show the community that local officers listen to their concerns and will work with them to tackle all types of anti social behaviour, and that information given to the police will be treated in confidence and will be used sensitively to benefit the neighbourhood, whenever appropriate.”
