'Clean
up our beach' call Burnham-On-Sea residents

Burnham-On-Sea
beach users have this week called for prompt action to clean up
the town's beach.
It
comes after several high tides left debris strewn along the shoreline
between Maddock's Slade and the town's low lighthouse, as pictured
here.
The
litter includes bottles, tyres, empty barrels and even the plastic
'shell' of a television monitor.
Earlier
in the week, the carcass of a dead sheep was spotted by walkers.
Residents
used Burnham-On-Sea's discussion
forums to call for action - and the comments have been noted
by Sedgemoor District Council.
"Burnham
has had a series of high tides in recent weeks which has left
more debris than usual along the sand," said council spokeswoman
Claire Faun. "Our
Clean Surroundings Team do clean the beach sporadically when problems
arise, but it is not usually part of our regular cleaning schedule
at this time of year."
Beach
users on Burnham-On-Sea's discussion forums have expressed their
concern about the situation. User 'Sue1' said: "Does anyone
else think that the beach is looking very unappealing at the moment?"
And 'Scrumperjack' added: "The rotting corpses, drums of
chemicals, plastic bottles and car tyres should certainly be cleaned
up on a regular basis."
