Biting winds don't leave the fish biting in Burnham!

Bitterly cold onshore winds failed to put off dozens of hardy anglers from taking part in a beach fishing competition in Burnham-On-Sea on Sunday (January 28th)... but the fish seemed to stay away!

Eighty fishermen lined the water's edge for the six hour event, but only 15 reeled in any catches - one of the poorest ever results for a large competition.

Organiser Steve Moore of Weston Outcasts told Burnham-On-Sea.com first place had gone to Jason Teakle with two codlings weighing just 5lb 2oz.

"It was a biting wind, and by the end of the day some of the guys had definitely had enough," he said.

"It was disappointing we didn't see any bigger catches. It's only a couple of weeks since a large 22lb cod was caught off the same beach."
