Burglars
flee with cash after breaking into Burnham shop through roof
Burglars
broke into a shop in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea this week before
fleeing with a large quantity of cash.
The
thieves struck at Bastins on the High Street early on Monday morning
(November 19th), cutting a hole in the roof of the building before
taking the money.
Shop
manager
Sandra Johnson told Burnham-On-Sea.com her staff had been left
"shocked" by the incident.
"Our
staff came in on Monday to find a trail of damage and money missing.
It's just amazing that people can do this," she said.
Police
spokesman Darren Blane added: "Extensive investigations have
been carried out by crime scene investigators and our enquiries
are ongoing."
"We
would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in this area between
4pm on Sunday afternoon and 9am on Monday morning to contact Crimestoppers."
The
break-in comes a
fortnight after a night-time break-in at the St
Margaret's Hospice Charity Shop, which is next door to Bastins
on Burnham High Street. In that raid, money was also taken.
The
latest incident follows further vandalism in the Manor Gardens
area of town this week.
Three
windows at the PRS counselling service at Manor House in the town's
Manor Gardens were smashed (as pictured) during the early hours
of Tuesday (November 20th).
A
mobile CCTV unit is to be introduced in the gardens for around
12 weeks to try and combat the problems.
Two
metal fences were also damaged in separate attacks in Oxford Street
over the weekend.
The
latest incidents come just days after Burnham-On-Sea.com reported
that eight youths had been arrested in connection with the vandalism
in the town. Burnham Bowling Club, which borders onto Manor Gardens,
was attacked
last Thursday.
