Almost
120 runners from across the South West took part in the annual
gruelling race from Burnham-On-Sea to the top of Brent Knoll and
back on Sunday (November 25th).
The
5.5 mile Brent Knoll Run has been held for more than 20 years,
having originally been started as a small race attached to the
village's summer fete. Burnham Harriers took over it several years
ago and moved it to the winter to make it more competitive.
Organiser
Brian Beale of Burnham Harriers told Burnham-On-Sea.com he was
"delighted" with how the event had gone.
"We've had great weather, a good turnout of 118 runners and
the race has gone very smoothly," he said.
The
runners start at Burnham's BASC ground in Stoddens Road and go
cross-country over the moors to the summit of Brent Knoll and
back.
Over
the years, the course has changed slightly after various alterations
to footpaths along the route.
Sunday's
race was won by Carl Plumpton of Portsmouth Athletic Club in a
time of 37 minutes, 31 seconds.
He
was followed by Jonathan Gilling in second place with a time of
38:08, and third was Martin Bird in 38:45.
The
junior race was won by Tom Lock of Wells in 41:32. First Male
Vet over 40 was Martin Bird of Nailsea (38:48) and the First Male
Vet over 50 was Les Lock of Wells (39:38).
Of
the 118 who took part, there were 108 finishers.
