A disabled boy from Burnham-On-Sea was celebrating this week after building work to provide him much-needed specialised facilities was completed.
We reported in November how seven-year-old Callum Mackman, who suffers from cerebral palsy, cannot complete everyday tasks without the help of his parents, Sue and Phil.
So the family – who live on the Rosewood Farm estate – applied for a grant to convert their garage into a new annexe to include specialised facilities in order to try and make their lives easier.
The request for grant cash was initially held up by red tape, but a new plan was drawn up and Burnham’s MP, David Heathcoat-Amory, stepped in to push the application through.
Work to construct a properly-equipped bathroom and bedroom with ceiling tracks and a proper emergency exit has now been completed – as shown in our photo – and the family are delighted with the end-result.
“It means so much to us – it gives Callum back some decency, privacy and dignity,” mum Sue told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
