Unattended candle sparks small blaze at Highbridge property

A Burnham-On-Sea fire crew was called to Highbridge on Thursday evening (August 30th) after an unattended ornamental candle caught fire.

The small blaze, at a property in Grange Avenue, burnt itself out but caused 75% light smoke damage to the room and its contents.

A fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "A safety officer was mobilised to the scene to investigate and the three occupants were advised to seek medical advice, one of them being a four and a half month baby."

He added that smoke alarms had been fitted at the property, but they had not operated.
