Burnham-On-Sea
carnival collection raises £11,000 for good causes
A
total of £11,000 was collected for local good causes at
Monday night's 2007 Burnham-On-Sea Carnival.
The
amount was up more than £1,500 on last year - much to the
delight of organisers.
A
team of over 80 charity collectors along the route of the carnival
urged the crowds to dig deep and surpass the amount raised last
year.
"We
are very pleased with £11,000," Carnival Chairman Mike
Young told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
"It's
a good increase on last year. I put it down to the increased crowds
compared to 2006 and the cancellation of Sunday's fireworks, which
meant people had more money to spend."
The
proceeds of the collection will officially be handed over to local
good causes at a presentation in a few months' time.
