Burnham-On-Sea
2007 carnival "ran like clockwork" say organisers

Big
crowds
of spectators lined Burnham-On-Sea's streets on Monday night (November
12th) to watch the town's colourful annual carnival.
A
total of
103 entries took part in the big parade, which was held in cold,
but dry conditions.
"It
all ran like clockwork," Carnival Secretary Doreen Ateyo
told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
"We
had no major hold-ups on the night and there were very few technical
problems on the floats. Everyone had a great time."
It
was a special night for this trio of young VIPs - Kayley Elton,
15, was chosen in September
to lead this year's parade as its Carnival Queen.
She
was accompanied by First Princess Lauren Wainwright, 12, from
Burnham, and Second Princess Daisy-May Kilduff, 7, also from Burnham.
The trio viewed the procession from a speedboat which was towed
near the front of the parade.
Scores
of masqueraders also took part in the parade, performing in between
the colourful floats, with local performers including the
Lucy Gunter Dance and Theatre group and the BEES.
Burnham's
emergency services headed the procession, with fire crews, St
John Ambulance, BARB and Coastguards all represented.
Carnival
Chairman Mike Young told Burnham-On-Sea.com he had been "delighted"
with the event. "It all went very well - the procession went
to plan, the weather stayed dry, and the crowds were slightly
up on last year," he said.
Meanwhile,
Burnham police praised spectators at Monday's 2007 Carnival. Spokesman
Dan Mountain said: "The crowds were well beheaved and mostly
peaceful. There were also no traffic problems. We
have had problems in some previous years, but this year was a
mostly quiet one."
