Burnham-On-Sea
youngsters enjoy mass sandcastle building contest!

Dozens
of Burnham-On-Sea youngsters took part in a mass sandcastle building
competition on the town's beach on Tuesday morning (June 19th)
as part of National Childcare Month.
The
annual 'Tide Fight' event saw more than 70 children and their
parents see who could build the best sandcastle before the incoming
tide demolished them.
This
annual event is held to celebrate National Childcare Month and
the Sure Start childcare programme.
It
is the first time it has been held in Burnham-On-Sea and the organisers
from the Somerset Early Years Play and Childcare Service in Burnham
were delighted that so many people took part.
The
children were from local playgroups and infant schools and included
Pawlett Playgroup, Hunnybears and Burnham Infant School.
The
event began at 9.30am, when the sandcastle building began in earnest
to beat the high tide at 10.39am.
The
teams made a dozen sandcastles of varying designs, with traditional
shapes appearing alongside more unusual designs.
The
winning team was Burnham-On-Sea playgroup Hunnybears, who won
a prize for their group. Every team or individual that entered
was given a goodie bag so everyone had a memento of the day. Many
of those taking part also had the added treat of an ice cream
and a paddle in the sea.
The
next event for playgroups in Burnham is the part of National Playday
on Wednesday August 1st when this year's event will take place
in Apex Park. Those interested in finding out more should contact
Somerset Early Years Play and Childcare Service in Highbridge.
