Exclusive: Plans for new £300,000 Burnham childrens centre unveiled

Ambitious plans for a new £300,000 childrens centre in Burnham-On-Sea have taken a step forward this week with formal plans for the site being submitted to Sedgemoor planners.

Burnham-On-Sea Community Infant School is nearbyThe application for the new premises on land next to The Community Infants School in Winchester Road (pictured) includes a single-storey building plus parking.

Backed by Somerset County Council, the application is due to go before town planners in Burnham during the next few weeks.

Julie Spencer, from the county council, said: "If approved, the facility would offer early education services, day care for pre-school children, family support for parents, and a range of family health services."

There were concerns last year that the location of the building could be a sticking point due to its potential impact on nearby playing fields.

The building was originally proposed for the centre of Burnham but was moved to this site bordering Winchester Road as it provided more space.
