Exclusive: 'Dozens of council jobs at threat from huge budget shortfall'

Speculation is growing that Sedgemoor District Council will this week announce major job cuts after hitting a financial shortfall.

Burnham-On-Sea.com understands the shortfall amounts to around £1.8m, and that dozens of staff lay-offs are being planned at the council's HQ in Bridgwater (pictured).

One senior source within the council told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Staff have already been told to brace themselves for 50 job losses, although some of the cuts could come from early retirements, rather than redundancies."

A full announcement is expected during the next few days.
