Burnham-On-Sea
fire crews tackle house blaze near Wedmore
Firefighters
from Burnham-On-Sea and across Somerset were called to tackle
a major house blaze in Blackford, near Wedmore, on Friday evening
(December 21st).
Two
fire engines from Cheddar and Burnham were called to the scene
at 6.40pm and by 7.50pm this was increased further with a further
two engines from Burnham and Wells, making a total of five.
Supporting
fire crews from Street, Bridgwater and Taunton also attended and
water jets were used to extinguish the blaze and damp down the
property plus a nearby oil tank and an adjacent property.
An
ambulance was also requested for two casualties suffering from
smoke inhalation and the Red Cross Fire Victim Support Unit was
also called to the schene to help those affected.
The fire was brought under control at 8:48pm and by midnight all
the fire crews had returned to their bases.
The
cause of the fire is still being investigated, although a fire
spokesman said he believed it to have been accidental.
Fire
brigade spokesman Paul Slavin told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "The
detached property was 100 per cent damaged by fire, along with
all the contents. Two male casualties suffered smoke inhalation
and one was taken to hospital as a precaution."
