Coastguards join flood relief efforts in Gloucester
A

to help with flood relief work in the county.
A
team of four Coastguards from the town has been tasked with helping
to distribute water and other vital supplies to stranded residents
in outlying areas.

Coastguard Officer Steve Bird told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "We
were asked on Tuesday evening to join a team of Watchet Coastguards
and other emergency services in helping to distribute water to
stranded residents around Gloucester and Stroud."
"We
expect to be here for several days and are operating a 24-hour
shift pattern with two crew on, two off. We were only too happy
to help in such difficult times."
The
team are based in Sharpness and a separate team of Coastguards
remains in Burnham to provide cover during any local emergency.
The
news comes as BARB, the Burnham charity that runs two rescue hovercraft
and an inshore rescue boat, was also asked on Tuesday to be on
standby to help with possible flood relief work.
