Burnham-On-Sea
MP urges flood risk residents to get in touch
Burnham-On-Sea's
MP David Heathcoat-Amory is urging residents who have been turned
down by insurance companies that are unwilling to cover them against
flood risk to contact him.
The
MP is compiling evidence to submit to The House of Commons Select
Committee on Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, about what could
have happened in Somerset if we had been subjected to similar
heavy rainfall as experienced this year along the Severn Estuary
during July.
David
Heathcoat-Amory visited the Environment Agency in September to
discuss this and is now collecting evidence to show some people
cannot get insurance cover for their properties if they live on
the Somerset Levels or near an area deemed to be at risk from
coastal flooding.
He
has supplied specific cases to the Committee and would now like
to hear from anyone else having similar difficulties.
Mr
Heathcoat-Amory told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "If any local residents
have been turned down by insurance companies unwilling to cover
them against flood risk, please let me know urgently."
"I
will ensure that this information is considered by the Select
Committee and this could influence their report."
Mr Heathcoat-Amory has requested residents email him at contact@davidheathcoatamory.com
