Foxes on Stert Island prompt rescue scare for Burnham Coastguards!

Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards were called out this week amid concerns that two dogs may be trapped on Stert Island.. but the animals turned out to be foxes!

A holidaymaker dialled 999 after spotting the animals on the island opposite Burnham.

Amid fears that the animals' owner may try and venture out onto the island to retrieve them, Coastguards investigated... but were relieved to discover through their binoculars that the animals were simply a pair of foxes playing in the mud!

Coastguards were immediately stood down. Stert Island is off limits to walkers without special permission from English Nature, although the nearby nature reserve at Steart village (accessed via Bridgwater) is open year-round.
