Golfers
raise £11,000 for Highbridge childrens charity
Over
£11,000 has been raised for a Highbridge-based childrens
charity by generous golfers.
Bob
Champion MBE, the former jump jockey and winner of the 1981 Grand
National, was among those taking part in the competition at The
Isle of Wedmore Golf Club to raise funds for The National Blind
Childrens Society.
The
Warwick Pugh Memorial Shield was won by Wessex Engineering and
Construction, with Life on Mars (Bristol CID) in second place
and Birdie Buoys (UK Hydrographic Office in Taunton) in third
place.
The
wet weather did not dampen spirits and a great day was had by
all. Charity spokesperson Tracy Wightman said: "We are grateful
for the support and generosity received from the teams who entered,
local businesses and Bob Champion for taking time out from his
busy schedule to support the charity."
The
event finished with an auction and the National Blind Childrens
Society received the winning bid of £800 for a Manchester
United Signed Football by telephone.
All-in-all,
the event raised over £11,000 - beating last year's total.
Details about next year's Golf Day area available from Tracy Wightman,
Fundraising and PR Manager, on 01278 764 778.
