Burnham-On-Sea
police aim to turn the table on Halloween tricksters

Burnham-On-Sea
police have launched their annual operation to ensure residents
enjoy a happy and safe Halloween.
As
part of Operation Relentless they will be cracking down on youngsters
who use the night as an excuse to be anti-social.
Extra
patrols will be out next Wednesday (October 31st) to target anti-social
behaviour - and in the run-up to the day officers are working
with retailers, schools and Neighbourhood Watch Groups to give
out posters and safety advice to Burnham residents and businesses.
This
year, police are particularly asking parents to take responsibility
for where their children are on the night and what they are doing
- both for their safety and the safety of the people they visit.
Chief
Superintendent Lawrie Lewis said: "This is not about criminalising
Halloween or trick treating. It is about ensuring everyone enjoys
the night safely. For
most young people the evening is all about having fun, but some
use Halloween as an excuse to act in an anti-social manner, causing
misery to vulnerable local residents."
Mr
Lewis added: "Whilst some of the 'tricks' seem like harmless
fun, some people can go too far and act in a manner which some
vulnerable members of the community find very frightening. They
should not have to tolerate this and we will not tolerate it."
Free
copies of the Halloween posters are available by contacting Burnham
Police Station on 0845 456 7000.
