Burnham
put on Flood Watch, but high tide passes without incident

Burnham-On-Sea
and the Bristol Channel was put on a Flood Watch by the Environment
Agency on Sunday morning (October 28th) when one of the highest
tides of the year swept in.
Storm
waves struck the town's seafront, as pictured, when the 11.5 metre
high tide coincided with gusty onshore winds.
The
Flood Watch was issued for the coastline extending from Porlock
to Avonmouth, and included Burnham-On-Sea, Berrow and Brean. The
Environment Agency shut the town's flood gates at the jetty, Maddock's
Slade and the Sailing Club as a precaution - but there were no
reports of any problems.
"The
high tide at 7.48am passed without incident," a spokesman
from the Environment Agency confirmed.
Flood
Watch alerts are issued by the Agency when the flooding of low
lying land or roads is possible.
The
Flood Watch was still in effect for Sunday evening's high tide.
