New £1.8million health club planned for Burnham-On-Sea

Exciting
plans for a new £1.8million health club and swimming pool
on the outskirts of Burnham are unveiled today for the first time.
Home
Farm Holiday Park hopes to construct the two-storey building on
land at its site just off Stoddens Lane with a possible opening
date of early 2009.
Park
owner Steve Atkinson spoke exclusively to Burnham-On-Sea.com this
week about the project, which will generate between eight and
ten new jobs.
The
complex will include a 13m x 15m swimming pool incorporating a
7m x 7m water fun pool, a sauna, steam room and reception area,
while upstars there will be a large fitness suite with running
machines and gym equipment.
"We've
been planning this for over two years and are itching to get it
going, particularly in light of the possible closure of Burnham's
swimming pool," said Mr Atkinson.
He
added that while the proposed pool would be smaller than Burnham's
existing facility in Berrow Road, he hopes it could be used by
classes, water aerobics sessions and families.
"We've
actually applied to the district council for permission to allow
outside members to use the complex and hope to have up to 500
members in total."
He
added that the complex would not be reserved exclusively for holidaymakers
at the park.
Providing
the proposals get the backing of Sedgemoor planners in the New
Year, the complex is likely to take around nine months to construct
- and Home Farm bosses say they hope it could be open in early
2009.
