Burnham-On-Sea jetty re-opens as new safety barrier is installed

Burnham-On-Sea's jetty was re-opened for public use on Wednesday (28th February) after work to install a new barrier and warning signs was completed on Tuesday, as pictured here.

Sedgemoor District Council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the jetty was re-opening to allow "residents and holidaymakers alike to use it in time for the start of the holiday season."

On Tuesday, a new barrier went into place across the whole width of the jetty, just below the point where launch vehicles access the beach. Warning signs stating that the "Jetty is liable to subsidence beyond this point - no access beyond this point" were also put into place.

Burnham-On-Sea.com reported last month that Sedgemoor District Council had closed the landmark after severe storms damaged the surface and coping stones underneath.

Meanwhile, a full options report is being prepared by the council to find a permanent solution to address the deteriorated state of the jetty. The report is due go to the Executive for a decision in May.
