Burnham-On-Sea judo experts fight their way to national success

Burnham and Highbridge Ju Jitsu and Judo club has enjoyed success at the UK's National Bushido Championships.

Against senior competitors from all over the Great Britain, Burnham's Matt Bloska and Nick Williams (both pictured in action) fought into the final pools in their weight categories. Matt fought his way to bronze and Nick won an outstanding silver.

Martyn Lawson, the club coach, said: "They've both done really well and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has helped us with funding."

"This has helped us update our equipment which, without a doubt, helped us with training and now we are starting to see the results."

Highbridge County Councillor Cllr Rose Parsons recently handed over funding from her community budget towards six mats.

The senior club runs on Wednesday evening between 8.00pm and 9.30pm at St Andrew's Church Hall. There are currently spaces for new senior members. The club's system of martial art involves self defence, fitness, and sport and it caters for all levels and abilities from complete beginners through to national level.
