Police appeal for witnesses after fatal accident on M5 at Burnham

Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision on the M5 between Weston and Burnham during the early hours of Monday (May 21st).

A Fiat Punto travelling southbound between junctions 21 and 22 left the carriageway at around 12.30am and went down an embankment before catching fire.

A police spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other occupants."

Police partly closed the motorway to allow for officers from the collision investigation unit to examine the scene. It was reopened at 5.25am.

Police want to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision. Anyone who can help should call the collision investigation unit on 0845 4567000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
