Burnham-On-Sea High Street shop is officially the 'best in the West'

Delighted Burnham-On-Sea shop owners John and Katharine Edwards are celebrating this week after scooping a top prize in a national awards competition.

Material Needs in the High Street was voted 'South West Stitching Retailer Of The Year' at a prestigious awards event in Birmingham this week.

The couple travelled to the Midlands for the 2007 Craft Hobby and Stitch International Awards and were "absolutely delighted" to scoop the west country's top prize.

John told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "We were the regional runners-up in 2006 and a nominee in 2005, so we had high hopes of doing well again this year."

"We're absolutely delighted to have won because the South West region covers a huge area from Berkshire down to Cornwall and includes dozens of other retailers. We'd like to say a big thank you to all our customers who voted for us."
