'Unsung
community heroes' praised in Mayor's Christmas message
Burnham-On-Sea
and Highbridge's Mayor, Pauline Pollard, has this week issued
her annual Christmas message in which she praises the 'unsung
heroes' in the community.
She
said: "Since May, when I took on the role as Mayor of Burnham
and Highbridge, I have had the pleasure of meeting many of you
who live in our very pleasant towns."
"It
has opened my eyes to the many organisations and clubs that we
have in the two towns and how so many of you work behind the scenes
to improve the lives of other people."
"As
I am sure you all know the Town Council does give Civic Awards
to these people, once a year at the Civic Service, but I know
that there are many unsung heroes in our midst who do not get
recognised."
"So
I would ask you all, when nominations are asked for in the spring
and early summer to think of these people and put their names
forward."
"I
would like to send special greetings to all families who have
people serving in the armed forces abroad. I realise how lucky
I am to have my family near to me, especially at this time of
the year."
"The
display of Christmas lights in both Burnham and Highbridge is
superb this year and also the lights along the seafront. This
gives a very festive atmosphere, both for the residents and also
the many visitors that come, even though the weather is not always
welcoming."
"It
just remains for me to say that I feel very proud to be the Mayor
of Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge and to wish every one of you
a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New
Year."
