MP tackles Chancellor over missing data discs
Burnham-On-Sea
MP David Heathcoat-Amory has tackled the Chancellor of the Exchequer
over the loss of 25 million Child Benefit records by HM Revenue
and Customs.
The
MP asked Alistair Darling in the House of Commons what other organisations
and agencies have access to personal information held by central
government but failed to get answer.
Mr
Heathcoat-Amory is so unhappy about the response that he has tabled
a written parliamentary question to try and get the facts.
Mr
Heathcoat-Amory told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Monday (November 26th):
"The problem is not just the personal data about 25 million
people which has been lost by Revenue and Customs."
"I
believe that government has got too big, too powerful and too
casual with the vast amount of information it holds about us all."
"I
have tabled questions to find out what personal information is
held by all government departments and agencies and who they disclose
it to without our permission."
"If
any constituent believes that information about themselves has
been lost by government and may be in the wrong hands, they can
contact me and I will help with the necessary investigations."
