Burnham-On-Sea
World War II veteran presented with award
Burnham-On-Sea
World War Two veteran Norman Binnall has this week been presented
with a veterans award and given honorary status by the town's
Regional Veterans Association.
Campaigners
have been battling to get proper social care for Norman, 89, and
other veterans, as first
reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com earlier this month.
Norman
fought as a member of the Royal Artillery in the Second World
War and was held as a prisoner of war in Germany for over three
years. He also lost a foot at Dunkirk.
This
week, members of Burnham RVA presented Norman with a gold RVA
emblem and granted him honorary membership of the group. The citation
which accompanies the RVA emblem is pictured here.
"Norman
certainly deserves better treatment than he's got recently. We
were only too happy to present him with this award - he thoroughly
deserves it," the RVA's President, Alan Bevan, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
The
Regional Veterans Association meets at Chichester Close communal
room on the fourth Thursday of each calendar month at 10am.
We
reported how Mr Binnall was forced to leave Burnham's Frith House
care home after Somerset Social Services decided he had recovered
from a wrist injury earlier in the year. He was asked to leave
the home to return to his one bed flat, but Norman's growing band
of supporters say he is frail and deserves proper treatment and
have launched an online petition on the official Number 10 website
here.
