County Hall rally planned for Burnham-On-Sea war veteran
Supporters
of Burnham-On-Sea World War Two veteran Norman Binnall will be
taking their fight to give him - and other veterans proper care
in their old age - to Somerset County Council's headquarters later
this month.
Norman's
plight was exclusively reported
by Burnham-On-Sea.com on September 14th and has since been followed
up by TV stations, radio shows, and newspapers from across the
country.
Over
700 people have signed an online petition on the official Number
10 Downing Street website set up by several of Norman's Burnham-based
supporters - Ian Jefferies and Dave Ilsley - in support of boosting
government funding for war veterans.
On
Monday (October 22nd), supporters will hold a rally outside County
Hall in Taunton to further step up their campaign to get justice
for Norman and other veterans like him.
"We'll
be gathering outside County Hall to put further pressure on Social
Services and the County Council to help Norman," Mr Ilsley
told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
"This
rally will have a special importance because it will be held on
the day of Trafalgar Day - a very important date for veterans."
Mr
Binnall, 89, was forced to leave Burnham's Frith House care home
after Social Services decided he had recovered from a wrist injury
earlier in the year. He was pressured to return to his one bed
flat even though Norman's supporters, led by Mr Ilsley (pictured
above with Norman), say he is frail and deserves proper treatment
in his old age.
Mr
Ilsley added this week: "People like Norman deserve our support.
He is the tip of the iceberg."
"There
are many more veterans like him who need proper social care, and
our campaign demands for better treatment for them all."
