Burnham-On-Sea opticians shop raises cash for Highbridge charity

-

A Burnham-On-Sea opticians shop has handed over £500 to a charity that helps children and young people with visual impairments.

Specsavers in the High Street has been fundraising for the Highbridge-based National Blind Children’s Society (NBCS) as its chosen charity since June 2006.

The NBCS works with families caring for children and young people with visual impairments. It aims to support and enable blind and partially sighted children and young people to achieve their educational and recreational goals.

Staff at the store have already donated more than £100 to the charity, and these most recent funds include a donation of £250 given by store director Ram Venkat.

Since June, staff have offered free specs servicing and M.O.Ts for customers, hosted a charity fun day in store to celebrate their first birthday and collected old mobile phones for recycling, which they will continue to do until June 2007. For each ‘phone donated the NBCS receives £3.00.

Burnham Specsavers store director Ram Venkat said: “We are delighted to have raised this much money for the NBCS. It’s a cause that is close to our hearts and we hope that through our efforts and the support of the local community we can make a difference for the charity.”

NBCS National Fundraising & PR Manager Tracy Wightmann added: “We are delighted to have been the chosen charity for Specsavers in Burnham and we are very grateful for the support of Specsavers staff and customers.”
