Emergency repairs completed after storms damage sailing club pontoons

Emergency repairs have had to be carried out to Burnham-On-Sea Sailing Club's pontoons after strong weekend storms caused damage.

Heavy seas and gusty winds caused damage to the walkways during the early hours of Saturday morning (December 29th).

Two steel girders which support the wooden walkways cracked, as pictured, leading to water and power supplies being cut to the moored yachts.

"Throughout Saturday, emergency repair work was carried out by a group of ten club members," Ted Tratt, the Sailing Club's bosun, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

"Whilst this work was completed, access to the pontoons was very restricted and members were warned to take extreme care."

The job was finally completed on Sunday when replacement floats were slid into position during the high tide, and the walkway was reconnected to the pontoons.

"It is now safe to access the pontoons again - we thank all club members who left the comfort of their homes to carry out the repairs," added Mr Tratt.
