Transport Police issue warning after Burnham railtracks ‘chicken’ game

-

British Transport Police this week asked train drivers to slow down while passing Burnham-On-Sea after several children were seen playing a dangerous game of ‘chicken’ on a railway crossing.

The alarm was raised when three children were seen wandering about on the rail tracks at Edithmead, close to Home Farm Holiday Park.

A Burnham-On-Sea.com reader took these photos from a nearby bridge and quickly alterted British Transport Police.

This week, Sgt Scott McKechnie of British Transport Police confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We did receive a call regarding three to four children playing ‘chicken’ on the railway line near Home Farm on Saturday evening.”

“As a precaution, Network Rail put several trains on caution, asking the drivers to slow down as they passed the area.”

“Children are naturally inquisitive and do venture onto rail lines, but we would urge them and their parents to ensure they do not trespass onto the line. It is obviously very dangerous.”
