Two
yachts retire during wind-swept Burnham-On-Sea regatta race

Strong
winds and stormy seas led to two yachts retiring during the first
main sailing race of this year's Burnham-On-Sea Regatta on Sunday
evening (July 29th).
Despite
the challenging conditions, a flotilla of thirteen yachts set
sail in Bridgwater Bay for the popular annual event.
The
race fleet is pictured here trying to catch up with Doug Basterfield's
yacht, Kittiwake, which went on to clinch first place.
In
second place was Graham Wills' Swiftwind, third was Jeff
Tanner's Melody and fourth was Arthur Pizzey's Rascal.
Regatta
organiser John Clist told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "We certainly
had all the wind we could have wanted, which made for exciting
racing."
"The
conditions were particularly tricky between the jetty and number
two buoy, with several yachts being caught out. The race was won
and lost in this stretch of water for several entrants."
Burnham's
regatta continues throughout the week and for full details of
what's happening where and when, see the official regatta website
