Gusty wind provided challenging conditions for competitors during the 2007 National Sand Yachting Regatta on Brean Beach on Saturday (March 10th).

The two-day event kicked off on Saturday morning and although strong winds initially led to fast speeds being clocked up by the 27 competitors, the wind died down by lunchtime and the first race had to be postponed. But the wind picked up later and provided ideal conditions.

Patrick McKenna of the Brean Sand Yachting Club told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The conditions have been very changeable, but we had excellent two days of racing.”

The event was for class 3, 5 and Standart land yachts and was open to all clubs.

Winners of the class 3 event were Jon Cookson, Steve Borrill and Richard Austin. Class five was won by Mark Lloyd with Roger Leah in second and Tim Spears in third. The Standart class was won by Malcolm Menzies, with second spot going to Neil Penhall and third to Rhys Davies.
