Burnham-On-Sea
town council defends decision on seafront lights
Burnham-On-Sea
Town Council has this week released photos of the town's new seafront
lights and defended its decision to proceed with a £21,000
project to buy them.
Town
Clerk Eileen Shaw said: "I feel I must clarify the Town Council's
position regarding the above in view of a press report last week
that the Town Council is to spend £21,000 on new lights
for the Esplanade without having seen the lights."
"Members
have seen a sample light from our new suppliers, Gala Lighting,
based in Kent, and have seen pictures of the actual lights being
ordered."
"Furthermore,
members have been able to inspect a cross section of the frames
on which the lighting will be mounted - the frame being the problem
with the lights which were damaged at the beginning of this year."
"Furthermore,
the fittings for the new lighting will enable them to be removed
easily after Christmas so that it may be stored over the worst
of the winter, thereby reducing the risk of further wind damage."
"The
terms and conditions from Gala Lighting have been very closely
scrutinised, and I wish to reassure residents that the purchase
of new lighting was not a decision taken without a great deal
of thought."
