Burnham-On-Sea skittles team celebrates
memorable victory
A
Burnham-On-Sea skittles team is celebrating this week after beating
one of the leading skittles teams at the British
Championships.
The
Burnham team produced the shock of the round in their first game
of the Blackthorn British Skittles Championships at the weekend.
Taking part in their first ever British Championships, the friends
who have the amusingly
titled team name 'Mooey and the Choo Choos',
looked to be facing an uphill battle when they were drawn in the
group stages against twice British Champions and current title
holders, AKA Predators of Weston-Super-Mare.
In
a close-fought match, the Burnham team took the shock early lead
over the Predators, but this was short-lived with the Weston team
starting to show just why they are the British Mixed Skittles
Champions.
"It
was going to take a mighty effort from us to turn around the deficit
on the last hand of the night - but turn it around is just what
they did," said the team's Adele Summers.
"A
final, and season's-best hand of 92 (including four 16s) saw the
Burnham team snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, romping home
winners by 26 pins. Steve
Hendry and Ross Grimes were the home team's star men, both hitting
50 over their five hands."
The
Burnham team have three more games to play in the group stages
of the Championships, starting with a return visit to AKA Predators
this Thursday (May 31st).
The
winners of their group will make it through to the knockout Grand
Final stage of the competition, to be held at Sand Bay, on Saturday
22nd September. For more information on the Blackthorn British
Skittles Championships, visit the website
