Burnham-On-Sea
fundraisers stride out for charity at 2007 Smile Walk

Colourful
costumes and strong walking shoes were the order of the day when
more than 30 Burnham-On-Sea residents took part in a fundraising
fancy dress walk on Sunday (June 24th).
Participants
in the 'Smile Walk' started at Burnham Jetty, then wanderered
along the seafront to the bandstand, then onto the Sailing Club
before returning to the jetty."
A
spring was put in their stride by a jazz band, who performed a
number of stirring tunes by the Bay View cafe throughout the event.
We have photo
coverage and online video
highlights.
Organiser
Becky Saunders told Burnham-On-Sea.com she was "delighted"
with the turnout and thanked all those who had supported the event,
which is expected to raise over £2,000 for the Peter Gilliard
Memorial School in India.
"The
inspiration for the name of the event - the Smile Walk - was a
wonderful photo of a smiling Indian schoolgirl which really struck
a chord with us," she said.
"Last
year's event raised over £1,300 towards a new school bus
and this year's event will hopefully double that. Some of the
people that couldn't make the walk have sent along donations."
