Speedway
crowds boost hotel bookings in Burnham-On-Sea
Burnham-On-Sea
hotels and guest houses are enjoying a bumper week of bookings,
thanks to the town's biggest-ever speedway event coming to town
this Friday (June 29th).
Over
4,000 people are expected to crowd into the Oaktree Arena on the
outskirts of Burnham when, weather permitting, a major Premier
League Pairs Championship event takes place.
Sedgemoor
Tourism Association's Tom Ashton, who runs Warren Guesthouse,
told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "It's been a very busy week for
accommodation bookings, with most rooms in Burnham now fully booked
on Friday night as the speedway fans flock into town. It's a great
event for the area."
The
Pairs are one of the three major events in the Premier League
calendar, and it is an event that Somerset have excelled at during
recent years, finishing runners up two years ago and fourth last
year, when the event was held in Glasgow.
Final
preparations have been made at the Oak Tree Arena for Fridays
event, and the fans have been lending their support to ensure
the Arena will be looking its best.
Somerset
Rebels promoter Mike Golding said: "With
the estimates of the numbers coming to Somerset for this event,
I would recommend fans get to the track early. We are opening
the turnstiles at 5pm, an hour earlier than usual, to start bringing
the fans through."
"We
have been told of at least 20 coach loads of fans coming for the
meeting, so if the home supporters want to be able to stand in
their usual vantage point, they do really need to get there early."
"To
increase the capacity we are opening up the 3rd and 4th bends
for the first time this season."
Hopes
are high that the home duo of Magnus Zetterstrom and Emil Kramer
can lift the title for the Somerset Rebels.
