Burnham-On-Sea
fire crew rescues motorist from trapped car

A
Burnham-On-Sea motorist had a lucky escape after her vehicle span
off the road into a ditch on the outskirts of the town on Wednesday
morning (October 3rd).
Police
closed Stoddens Lane to all traffic after a blue Mazda slid off
the road into the ditch, as pictured here.
The
shaken famale driver inside was freed from the vehicle by fire
crews.
Fire
spokesman Paul Slaven told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "A fire engine
and two special appliances from Burnham were used to help rescue
the woman from the partially submerged vehicle."
"Wearing
dry suits, our fire crew pulled the lady free from the car before
leaving her in the care of ambulance staff."
The
bend where Wednesday's accident occurred - before the hump back
bridge - is a well-known accident blackspot, with numerous accidents
having happened there in recent years.
Police
spokesman Dan Mountain told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the motorist
had been taken to hospital: "The woman inside was not injured,
but was taken to Weston General Hospital for a check-up."
Stoddens
Lane was partially opened to traffic again at 8.45am.
