Summer
storms cause disruption in Burnham-On-Sea

Heavy
rain and strong winds caused disruption in Burnham-On-Sea on Monday
(June 25th) when a power cut left dozens of homes in the dark,
a school was shut for the day, and roads in the town were left
under water.
Several
hours of heavy downpours left parts of Allandale Road (pictured
above) and The Esplanade (right) flooded as the unseasonally wet
summer weather continued.
Western
Power Distribution said 39 homes in the centre of Burnham had
been left without power following a local fault during the early
hours of Monday.
Company
spokesman Brian Newis told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Homes in
Cross Street and along The Esplanade were without power from 5.15am
until 6.20am, for which we apologise. The cause of the problem
is still being investigated."
Staff
at Berrow Primary School were again turning away pupils on Monday
morning due to ongoing problems with its drains. The bad weather
has compounded the problem that Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported
last week.
The
latest disruption comes just days after several streets in Burnham
were flooded following flash floods.
