A big clean-up operation on Burnham-On-Sea beach didn’t quite go to plan on Saturday morning (March 17th), as shown in these photos!

The event, organised by Burnham Boat Owners Sea Angling Association, ground to a halt when the group’s tractor became stuck for over 30 minutes in several inches of deep mud on the beach near Quantock Court. See video.

Members of the group struggled to pull the stranded tractor and trailer free… but using a combination of ropes and wedges, the event was able to continue.

It was a small glitch during an otherwise successful event for the group, which towed away nine loads of debris from between the Yacht Club and the Low Lighthouse.

The group, pictured on the right, included John Chin, Chris Evans, Dominic Stroud, Tracy Stroud, Simon Stroud, Dave Saunders, Chris Lindsay, Pete Nicholson, Dave Arding, John and Tracy Labe and Keith Derrick.

Chairman Simon Stroud told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “There was a lot of rubbish on the beach after the stormy high tides over the winter, but now it should be much cleaner in time for the Easter holiday period. We towed away nine trailer loads of debris during the day. “

Burnham-On-Sea.com reported earlier this year how the beach was strewn with debris, including bottles, tyres, empty barrels and even the plastic ‘shell’ of a television monitor.
